El Dia de los Muertos (The Day of the Dead) is a holiday celebrated in Mexico and many other cultures on November 1st and 2nd. This celebration honors the lives of family and friends who have passed away. Colorful painted skull masks and decorations are a traditional part of the Day of the Dead celebration. Here is a fun and easy Day of the Dead craft idea for making your own colorful masks.

Materials:
- Thick paper plates

- Pencil
- Tempera paint
- Sharpie markers
- Scissors
- Liquid paper
- Jewels, feathers, or other decorations
Directions:
- Draw and cut out the outline of a skull on the paper plate.
- Completely paint the skull shape with tempera paint. (Allow to dry)
- Use pencil to lightly draw eyes, nose, mouth, and facial decorations.
- Use liquid paper to fill in teeth and any other white areas.
- Use sharpie marker to go over the rest of the facial features on the mask.
- Add feathers, jewels, or other decorations for a finishing touch.
- Mount masks on black construction paper to frame.
